Stuck for anniversary watch engraving ideas? I’m regularly asked to engrave watches. The types of watches that are given as gifts are as varied as the reasons for giving a watch as a gift. From birthdays, weddings, and farewell gifts for long-term employees through to graduation and even apologies. But probably the most common reason I see for giving a watch as a gift is for an anniversay of some sort. You might also be surprised to learn that more than half the time I’m asked to engrave a watch, the person giving the watch as a gift has no idea what to engrave on it! They just know they want something personal, everlasting, meaningful or even funny.

When it comes to anniversary watch engraving ideas, the message should be concise, full of contextual meaning, be easy to read and something that brings a smile to the person who would wear the watch and see the message regularly. The message should be from the heart, and whilst it can be clever it shouldn’t be too cryptic. However, it could even be about something only the two of you know about!

Below I have put together a collection of the messages I have commonly engraved on watches when people can’t think of anything and have no idea. Weirdly, this turns into an in depth conversation I have with the bestower of the watch to understand a little about person receiving the watch so we can come up with a meaninful message together that both parties will be happy with. Sounds easy, but it’s not!

Often the person buying the watch for the gift has spent quite a lot of money on the watch, and so they think long and hard about the mesage to engrave on it. Because of this, they’ll sometimes even loose sleep over it. Then they’ll come and see me to have a message engraved, and be at a total loss for what to enscribe on the timepiece, exhausted from the thought process.

Ultimately, whatever the message you choose to engrave on a watch, it needs to be meaningful to the person who’ll be wearing it regularly. You don’t want to make the message too long, or it’ll be too hard read when they pick up the watch and they likely won’t stop and read it.
